"NUEVO MODELO PETROFÍSICO OPTIMIZADO MEDIANTE EL USO DE INDUCCIÓN TRIDIMENSIONAL. CASO DE ESTUDIO EN ÁREA GRIMBEEK - CUENCA DEL GOLFO SAN JORGE"
ABSTRACT
In light of the problematic, high water-saturation values in oil-bearing layers with very low water cut,a petrophysical model review was conducted, which included an analysis of all applicable variables and parameters. This exhaustive review led to the conclusion that the possible explanation to thisproblem may lie in the sedimentation model of the area. The geological model of the Grimbeek area, located in the north flank of the Golfo de San Jorge Basin, shows reservoirs with alternating sedimentary facies of coarse-to-fine-grained sandstones. The studies of these facies involved core samples, wellbore images and NMR logs of wells in the area. The presence of very fine-grained sandstone facies within productive sand bodies may be causing a drop in resistivity measurements acquired with conventional induction tools.
On the basis of these geological studies on reservoir sedimentation, this paper presents a proposal to optimize the current petrophysical model through the introduction of the resistivity anisotropy concept in reservoirs of the area. This concept may enable adjusting of the saturation calculations by using resistivity of productive sandstone facies, excluding the influence of non-productive fine sandstone facies of the reservoir. Thus, the accuracy of original oil-in-place estimates based on 3D modeling and dynamic simulations of production may be improved.
